We are all striving for the elusive work-life balance. Finding balance can be such a difficult thing, then trying to maintain it can honestly sometimes feel like a pipe dream. No matter how effective you are, most of us have 1 million things on our plate each day.

You may wonder, is it possible to have it all? Can you be successful in your career, have a thriving social life and also have time for family? Is it truly possible to find balance amongst all of these things?

The truth is, it is rare that you will find balance all the time. It’s unlikely that you will feel you are effective in all life areas, at all times. That is why we talk about practicing these types of things. We talk about practicing self-care and about finding work-life balance constantly for good reason. It is a journey and a process that requires patience, dedication and diligence.

When you feel that your life is more balanced than not, you can feel effective, competent and content. It’s hard to stay out of balance for extended periods of time while maintaining mental and physical wellness. Balance is essential for feeling satisfied and fulfilled in your life, but there is a reason that they call most things a “balancing act”. Things shift, and they need to. The trick is making sure that things continue to shift in a positive, healthy direction.

Being an independent contractor can make this a little bit easier. Contracting allows you flexibility and control over your schedule. You can create a schedule that works for your life. When you are in control of your schedule you are able to go to the doctor, you’re able to go on vacation, able to be there for your family and friends, you’re also able to schedule your clients in a way that works for you and them.

You don’t have to build your schedule as a traditional 9 to 5. You can see clients in the morning and take a break and then do later evening appointments. As an independent contractor, you decide how much money you make. You may worry that you need to work part time in order to not feel burned out. The reality is, that when you can build a schedule that works for you and your life, so much more is attainable.  This type of control can facilitate balance as well as success.

Contracting with Carolina Counseling Services makes finding work-life balance easier. You are in control, you can find your balance and you can be fulfilled in your practice.
